,,Please read this entire page before booking a vehicle through BookaCampa. These terms form the basis upon which you may conduct business through www.bookacampa.co.nz or any of its related websites. The parties to these terms are:
- BookaCampa (“us”, “we”, and “our”)
- an end user, anyone who uses our site (“you” or “the customer”).
These terms apply for all our websites (“www.bookacampa.co.nz“, or “the site”). BookaCampa may change these terms at its discretion at any time.
THE BOOKING PROCESS
To rent a camper or other recreational vehicle through BookaCampa, be sure you understand the following items:
The prices displayed on our website are always for off-season rentals.
By booking a vehicle, you are guaranteed that the vehicle you choose on our website’s booking page, or one with equivalent features, will be available for you at your pick up location. A booking in your name is confirmed upon receipt of your deposit. You must pay the balance of your booking directly to the rental company when you pick up your reserved vehicle, unless specified otherwise.
Important – For these suppliers Freedom Campers, Budget Campers, Tui Campers, Mighty Campers, Britz Motorhomes, Maui Motorhomes, Happy Campers, Kiwi Campers and Apollo Motorhomes full payment is required at least 45 days prior to the date of your booking collection. if your deposit payment has been made within the 28 days before collection, the balance of your booking payment is required within 24 hours of your deposit being paid via our site. failure to make a balance payment to you supplier will result in cancellation. by accepting these terms, you agree to these conditions. your booking agent will contact you when the balance payment is due.
You are required to pay a deposit to BookaCampa when you book a vehicle. This payment ensures that the vehicle indicated, or one very much like it, will be available. BookaCampa sets the prices for deposits as it sees fits. Payments are subject to the policies described below under “REFUNDS”.
A vehicle may be reserved for a customer temporarily. The typical length of the hold is one to three days. You will be notified of the specific expiry date and time of your hold.
On the booking page, you can see the total price of your booking in the currency of your choice. The price of a rental includes:

BookaCampa does not charge any fees.
If available, a vehicle will be reserved for you when the quote is generated.
Your deposit is due as soon as you confirm a booking or choose the payment option on our website. By paying a deposit to BookaCampa, you agree to the payment terms set out in this document.
All Payments, whether a deposit, or balance payment of booking will incur a 3% credit card (Visa and MasterCard) administration fee. American Express and Diners Club will incur a 4.5% credit card administration charge for such fees.
While we make every effort to reserve your chosen vehicle, this depends on the supply of the rental agent. Therefore, a vehicle cannot always be allocated at the same moment that you make your payment. If a vehicle is not available, a refund may apply. See our refund terms below.
Refunds are calculated and issued differently depending on the reason. Please see below for our terms in each case.
Vehicle not available
There may be times when the rental agent is not able to make a specific vehicle available immediately after you have paid the deposit. In most cases, the vehicle usually becomes available within one or two business days. However, in such a case, the rental agent will contact you to offer an alternative vehicle or a full refund of your deposit.
Vehicle not as expected
We strongly recommend that you accept the vehicle offered by the rental company on your pickup day. Every effort will be made to deliver a vehicle to you that is essentially the same as the one you indicated when you paid your deposit.
If the vehicle presented to you is completely different from the one described in your booking, please call us immediately.
Failure to accept the vehicle provided will result in:
- a cancellation fee from BookaCampa
- loss of your deposit.
Miscommunication by agent
BookaCampa may offer a refund in part or full of your deposit paid, in the case that your agent miscommunicates critical information to you and this error is proven after a review of your file. We will work with the rental company to determine if you are due a refund.
BookaCampa has the final say on whether or not a refund of your deposit in part, or full is warranted. Please note that if you are unhappy with our decision, you may contact your credit card company. However, a credit card dispute fee will apply.
We collect a great deal of information from you when you book a rental. See “Credit Card Dispute Fees” for more information. We depend on this detailed case history to investigate and remedy miscommunications promptly—usually within one to two weeks.
The rental company may grant a partial or full refund if the delivered vehicle presented any quality issue or other inconvenience. We will do everything we can to ensure that you are satisfied.
Unfortunately, we cannot always guarantee a 100 percent satisfactory outcome. If the rental company makes a partial refund, BookaCampa will not offer any additional money back. This is because the partial refund includes money towards the deposit.
Change of plans
Should you want to modify your trip or the vehicle that you have booked, BookaCampa will not refund your deposit in full or in part. Please contact your rental agent to make such changes.
Remember that fees will apply if you cancel the booking entirely.
When you pay a deposit on a vehicle, you are entering a contract, which includes agreeing to the terms and conditions presented on this page. Because processing bookings does cost your agent money, BookaCampa only offers refunds of deposits under the exceptional circumstances described above.
FEES FOR CREDIT CARD DISPUTES
Anytime you make a payment to us, the payee on your statement will be listed as “BookaCampa“. Direct all requests for refunds of your deposit to your rental agent—never to your credit card company.
BookaCampa has set up a system that eliminates the possibility of reclaiming money through your credit card company. We go to great lengths to compile and store detailed information in your client file. We provide this information to our credit card merchant operators to ensure that refunds of this type are rejected.
The data we collect include:
- detailed notes of phone conversations
- A video recording of the online session whereupon you paid the deposit and accepted these Payment Terms
- clicked links and times of clicks
- IP addresses used to access our site
- personal identifying information: your name, phone number, and country.
For chargeback requests, BookaCampa adds a one-time fee of AU$150 for Australian pickups and NZ$150 for New Zealand pickups. Should evidence of fraudulent credit card purchases lead to decision in your favour, we will waive the credit card dispute fee.
To reduce the number of days for your booking, please contact the Rental Company. Note that if the modification decreases the cost of rental, the deposit amount will not be reduced. To increase the number of days or to modify your booking in any other way, please contact your agent.
Please request all cancellations and changes through your agent. If you cancel your booking 90 days or less from the scheduled pickup date, cancellation fees apply.
If your rental agent cancels your booking within seven days of the pickup date, BookaCampa is liable for up to 50 percent of the full cost. If you fail to pick up your vehicle, BookaCampa is liable for 100 percent of the cost.
However, rental cancellations made within 90 days of the pickup will incur the following fees to cover BookaCampa’s costs. Note that these fees are considerably less than the fees that the rental companies would otherwise charge. Reservation deposits are never refundable.
The following fees apply whether your cancellation is processed through BookaCampa or the rental company. We apply these fees as soon as you or the rental company notifies us of the cancellation:

*When you book with us, you agree that our accounts department has the right to automatically charge your debit card or credit card any cancellation fees that apply to the cancellation of a booking. We strongly recommend that renters ensure they take out the highest level of Travel Insurance.
Cancellations processed through the Rental Company are also subject to the above Cancellation Fees. Cancellation Fees will be applied upon notification from the customer or the Rental Company. Failure to pick up your vehicle is considered a “no show” and is therefore subject to the fee outlined above.
(Updated 12/1/2017): Hippie Camper, Cheapa Campa, Apollo Camper, StarRV, Mighty, Britz & Maui Bookings also have the following cancellation fees:
- if canceled 22 to 90 days from pickup: 10% of total hire. Minimum fee payable is $250.
We urge you to take out travel insurance. Your rental agent can explain the policies and all benefits and exclusions in detail.
Excess reduction cover
If you have an accident, the excess reduction cover will reduce your excess payable. Most rental agents offer multiple tiers of cover. The payable decreases to $0 at the upper level.
If you do opt for cover, the policy price will be included in your rental quote. Each rental company offers different terms for their cover. Read your policy immediately after paying BookaCampa, and contact your rental agent if you have any questions.
